JAMES MARSHALL (DALEK)
Marshall is one of the most exciting artists emerging from Brooklyn's celebrated art scene.
It was while he was studying photography at the Art Institute of Chicago that he began writing graffiti
and developed a unique style that merged his street art influences with his television upbringing. The
resulting graffiti revolved around bizarre animation-inspired characters he called "space monkeys", which
would become his trademark. Over time, the space monkeys migrated from city walls onto more conventional media,
like canvas, paper and wood. Space monkeys, and the world they inhabit, provide an ever-evolving tableau for
Marshall's precision line making, composition, and color theory.
In addition to showing all over the country, Marshall's art was adopted by Nike for its 2002 Presto campaign.
His first monograph, titled "Dalek: Nickel-Plated Angels," was released this May by Gingko Press.
